Welcome to REHEAL

Building Circular Healthcare Across Europe

In our first ten months, REHEAL has brought together healthcare organisations, researchers, innovators and suppliers from five European countries around one question: how do we make healthcare supply chains more circular, more resilient and less wasteful? This first issue introduces the project, shares what we heard from the market, and explains what happens next.

Welcome from the Project Coordinator

Welcome to the first edition of the REHEAL newsletter.

Since the project began, our consortium has been working together to understand one of healthcare's biggest sustainability challenges: how we can better manage the lifecycle of medical devices while reducing waste and strengthening healthcare resilience. Over the past ten months we have established strong partnerships, engaged stakeholders across Europe and completed important consultation activities that will help shape the next phase of the project. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. Together we can transform the future of sustainable health and care.

We look forward to continuing this journey together.

Spotlight: We're extending the Open Market Consultation

More time for market dialogue. Stronger foundations for the Call for Tenders.

The REHEAL Open Market Consultation has given us a clearer picture of what the market can deliver, where the real constraints sit, and how suppliers see the challenge we set out.

Based on what we have learned, we have decided to extend the market consultation phase rather than proceed to tender as originally planned. This gives us the time to deepen the dialogue and make sure the Call for Tenders reflects both the needs of healthcare organisations and the realities of the market.

The next phase will build on the findings so far and open further engagement between buyers and potential suppliers, so that the REHEAL Call for Tenders reflects what healthcare buyers need and what the market can realistically deliver and bid for.

More information on the extended consultation, next steps and timing will follow. Follow REHEAL to hear about it first.

If you're a supplier: this is the window to shape the requirements rather than respond to them. Register on the REHEAL Matchmaking platform to find consortium partners and stay on the list for the Call for Tenders. → rehealhorizon.eu/about/matchmaking

What is REHEAL?

5 Buyers / 260+ Hospitals / 300,000 Healthcare Workers / 17M Patients

Healthcare systems are facing increasing environmental, financial and supply chain pressures. REHEAL is a Horizon Europe project that brings together healthcare providers, universities, research organisations and industry partners to develop practical approaches that support a more circular healthcare system. Instead of the traditional 'take–use–dispose' model, REHEAL explores how products and medical devices can be tracked, recovered, refurbished, reused and recycled wherever safe and appropriate.

Why REHEAL Matters

REHEAL is helping to: • Reduce waste and environmental impact. • Improve supply chain resilience. • Support smarter procurement. • Encourage innovation. • Build stronger collaboration between healthcare providers and industry.

Meet the Consortium

REHEAL brings together partners from across Europe with expertise in healthcare, procurement, sustainability, engineering, research and innovation.
